This 100-Year-Old Silo Looks Abandoned - Wait Until You See the Inside

For over a century, a fieldstone silo stood on a farm in Wisconsin. It had weathered storms, snow, and decades of hard use. The roof leaked. Stones had loosened. Weeds grew high around its base. Most people driving past would have seen nothing but an old, crumbling relic - a round stone tower that belonged to another era. But the Worzalla brothers saw something else entirely.

They looked at that weathered shell and imagined a place where friends could gather, where old stone and modern comfort could meet. In November 2024, they shared a video of their year-long transformation. It has since garnered over 7.7 million views. People around the world were captivated by the idea of turning a forgotten farm structure into a warm, inviting hangout.

1. Repairing the Weathered Base

The first task was the most critical. The silo's base had crumbled after a hundred years of freeze and thaw. The brothers used a mix of traditional masonry techniques and modern tools. They carefully cleaned each loose stone, reset it, and repointed the mortar. This work ensured the silo would stand for another century while keeping its original fieldstone character.

2.  Constructing a Wooden Add‑On

The silo alone was too cramped, so they added a custom wooden extension attached to the side. Large, energy-efficient windows were installed to flood the interior with natural light. The new wooden structure complements the old stone beautifully, and the windows offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

➡️ With the foundation solid and the extension framed, the brothers turned their attention inside. Turn the page to see the spiral staircase and the cozy rooms they built.
